Chulalongkorn University is Thailand's oldest and most prestigious institution, and its campus is a place where tradition and forward momentum coexist. When the university commissioned Hoist Media to design and build a spatial installation in 2019, the brief called for something that could honor that legacy while expressing it in a new visual language.

Hoist took on the project from concept through construction — designing an environment built to live within the architectural context of the Bangkok campus and speak to the university's identity and values. The project title, Born to the Purple, references Chulalongkorn's royal purple: the color synonymous with the institution and a thread that runs through student life, ceremony, and school pride.

The installation is a study in how spatial design can carry symbolic weight. Rather than decorating a surface, Hoist shaped an environment — one where moving through the space communicates something about belonging, legacy, and the particular pride of a Chulalongkorn education. Delivered on campus in Bangkok, it's a project that required design sensitivity and construction precision in a context very different from Hoist's California base.
